Network daughter cards are the integrated NIC solution in modern PowerEdge servers - they occupy the dedicated NDC slot on the motherboard and provide the primary production network interfaces for the server. The NDC slot provides lower latency and more direct firmware management integration than a standard PCIe NIC. For VMware environments, NDC ports are typically configured as VMkernel ports for vMotion, vSAN, and management traffic.

The most common NDC configurations in current PowerEdge environments are dual-port 10GbE (for R640 and R740 servers in vSphere clusters) and quad-port 1GbE (for R640 servers in mixed physical/virtual environments). The 25GbE NDC options are increasingly common in 15G PowerEdge deployments connecting to 25G leaf switches in modern spine-leaf data centre fabrics.

Sourcing refurbished Dell NDCs and PCIe NICs through Epoka allows network interface upgrades or replacements within existing PowerEdge platforms at significantly lower cost than new OEM parts. NDC compatibility is server-generation specific - the NDC slot design changed between 13G and 14G PowerEdge platforms.
