Cisco IOS and NX-OS validate transceiver vendor coding at boot. Switches running standard IOS will log a warning message for every non-Cisco-coded SFP inserted - and in some software versions, uncoded transceivers will not operate at full advertised speed. In Nexus environments running NX-OS, non-Cisco transceivers may be blocked entirely unless a specific override command is configured. These issues add operational overhead and create persistent log noise in network management systems.
